MSPs drum up support for Kilts for Kids Day
25/11/2008
In a rare show of unity, MSPs from the four main political parties have come together to support Kilts for Kids Day.
Minister for Schools and Skills, Maureen Watt (SNP), Mike Rumbles (Liberal Democrats), Annabel Goldie (Conservatives) and Iain Gray (Labour) each wore a piece of tartan to encourage everyone in Scotland to get involved in our new national fundraiser.
The MSPs posed with members of wild Scottish drumming group Clannan An Drumma in front of the Scottish Parliament. Best known for drawing a crowd in the streets of Edinburgh during the Fringe, members of the group - who have often been described as looking like they have stepped straight out of the film Braveheart - were happy to drum up support for Scotland's new national fundraising event.
One heroic musician even stripped down to his vest - in the middle of November true dedication to the cause!
Kilts for Kids Day will take place on Friday 28 November, and we are encouraging everyone to turn Scotland tartan and organise Scottish-themed events in the run-up to St Andrews Day!
Every primary and secondary school across Scotland, as well as companies, businesses and clubs, has received a Kilts for Kids fundraising pack full of fundraising ideas such as hosting a tartan day at school or 'dress down Friday' to organising a Kiltaoke or Scottish-themed quiz night.
Media personality Kaye Adams, who is supporting Kilts for Kids Day, said: "Many children in Scotland endure traumas most of us couldn't imagine. CHILDREN 1ST's work covers many different areas - from helping children using therapeutic play and art therapy, to providing essential support to families under stress."
"Kilts for Kids is an easy and fun way for everyone in Scotland to join CHILDREN 1ST in working to improve the lives of young people here in Scotland - and to have a great time!"
