02/12/2008

Peoples postcode lottery logoThe People’s Postcode Lottery held its first St Andrews Day Belter on 30 November.

The Scottish lottery, which has donated a total of £250,000 to CHILDREN 1ST since it was established in January, divided £1 million between lucky players living in the KY13 8QT postcode of Kinross.

The lottery donates 40p from each £2 ticket to CHILDREN 1ST, along with fellow Scottish charities Maggies Cancer Caring Centres and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

How it works

The People’s Postcode Lottery is subscription based and each player purchases a £2 ticket based on their postcode. Each ticket in the winning postcode receives a share of the £25,000 Street Prize, with a further £5,000 split between ticket holders in the postcode sector.

Every ticket is also entered into the monthly Postcode Belter which gives players the chance to win thousands of pounds and a brand new Mini Cooper.

St Andrews Day Belter

The St Andrews Day Belter marks the first of the lottery’s quarterly £1 million giveways. The next one, the Spring Belter, will take place on 29 March.

Anne Houston, chief executive of CHILDREN 1ST, said: "We believe that children can be helped to overcome experiences of abuse and look forward to a happier future. The People's Postcode Lottery gives everyone the chance to support our work and help us stop a bad childhood from lasting a lifetime."
