Putting the child at the centre
You can support CHILDREN 1ST as we work to ensure that children are at the centre of every aspect of Scotland’s child protection system.
Children’s experience of what happens when they do tell an adult about abuse or neglect is very important. They need to feel listened to, taken seriously and feel confident that their needs and concerns will be put first.
The child protection system includes all the formal procedures and professionals that take action when a child is found to have suffered abuse or neglect, or to be at risk of this. The system has been significantly changed in recent years. Many policies and laws have been designed to make the system effective.
However CHILDREN 1ST believes that much more needs to be done to make sure that the child is always at the centre of the child protection system.
We want to see:
Confidential space to be made available for children to talk about any problems
Report: Confidentiality – will you keep it to yourself?
Better support and access to justice for child victims and witnesses
Factsheet on child witnesses
Children central to future developments of the child protection system
Report: Getting the balance right?
Further measures to protect children from sex offenders
Briefing on the Management of Sex Offenders
