1. What is Kilts for Kids Day?
Kilts for Kids Day is Scotland’s most exciting charity fundraiser. Taking place every year on the Friday closest to St Andrew’s Day we are asking you to hold a fundraiser, celebrate all things Scottish and raise money for Scotland’s leading children’s charity, CHILDREN 1ST.
2. When is Kilts for Kids Day?
Kilts for Kids Day takes place every year on the Friday closest to St Andrew’s Day. In 2011, Kilts for Kids Day is on Friday 25 November.
3. Do I have to hold my Kilts for Kids Day event on Friday 25 November?
No, you can organise your Kilts for Kids Day event any time that is convenient for you.
4. What can I do to raise funds for Kilts for Kids Day?
Taking part in Kilts for Kids Day is easy and fun. We have lots of ideas for you in our Fundraising Pack or you can come up with something totally different!
5. I am unable to hold a Kilts for Kids Day event, can I just make a donation?
Yes, you can make a donation online or call 0845 10 80 111.
6. How do I send my money in?
After collecting the money, you can pay online, by phone or by post.

Call the Kilts for Kids Day donation line on 0845 10 80 111 to pay in your money.
By post
Please send a cheque made payable to CHILDREN 1ST to your nearest regional office. If you do post your payment, be sure to fill out the Sending in your Money reply form so we can give you due credit for all your hard work! This form also includes all the information you need and the addresses of our regional offices.
7. Will I get an acknowledgement and certificate once I’ve sent my money in?
Yes, an acknowledgement and a Kilts for Kids Day certificate will be sent to everyone who takes part and sends in a donation. Please include your contact details on the Sending in your Money reply form. If you don’t want an acknowledgement, please let us know when sending your money in.
8. I'm having trouble downloading the pack, what do I do?
If you experience trouble downloading the pack, first ensure that pop-ups are disabled in your web browser. If that doesn’t work, email kiltsforkids@children1st.org.uk and we will email or post you a copy.
9. What do I do if I’m experiencing technical difficulties on this website?
First try re-launching the website. If you still experience problems please email a detailed description of the problem to kiltsforkids@children1st.org.uk. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
10. Can you provide me with posters, stickers, etc. to promote my event?
We have lots of materials to help you organise an event, such as downloadable posters and tartan heart pin badges. Please visit our Resources page for a full list of materials available. If you have trouble ordering online email kiltsforkids@children1st.org.uk or call 0845 10 80 111.
11. What is matched funding?
Many companies will support their employee’s fundraising efforts by offering to match funds raised. Check with your employer as it is a great way to boost your fundraising efforts and help CHILDREN 1ST support vulnerable children across Scotland.
12. How do I contact the Kilts for Kids Day team?
You can email kiltsforkids@children1st.org.uk or call 0845 10 80 111. Offices are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We will do our best to reply to all enquiries within 24 hours.
13. How do I find out how much has been raised for Kilts for Kids Day?
We will post updates on our Facebook page every week, so don't forget to become a fan. You can also visit the website after Kilts for Kids Day and see our total on the homepage.
14. How will my money be used?
All the money raised from Kilts for Kids Day will go to CHILDREN 1ST’s work with some of Scotland’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people and their families. For more information on how your money will help please visit the Where Your Money Goes page.
15. I’m a teacher, do you have resources specific for schools?
Yes, Kilts for Kids Day fits in with the Curriculum for Excellence and we have developed a range of resources specifically for schools and teachers. Download our school fundraising pack, and visit our Schools section for extra primary and secondary school resources, including assembly presentations, recipes, quizzes and more.
16. What will I get if I agree to receive further information?
You will receive general information on CHILDREN 1ST and Kilts for Kids Day. CHILDREN 1ST complies with the Data Protection Act and your details will never be passed on to a third party.
17. Are you going to send me unsolicited emails?
No, if you do choose to sign up to Kilts for Kids Day, you will receive Kilts for Kids Day updates only.
18. How does Gift Aid work?
If you are a UK taxpayer, CHILDREN 1ST can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate at no extra cost to you. This means that a £10 Gift Aid donation is worth £12.50. So get all your donors to sign a Gift Aid form and make your donation go further.
The amount of tax received by CHILDREN 1ST on your donation must not exceed the amount of income and/or capital gains tax you pay in any tax year. Remember that you don't have to be in employment to pay tax. Many people pay tax on their savings, pensions and investments.
