Huge effort for Kilts for Kids Day 2011

Friday 23 December 2011

Well, Kilts for Kids Day has happened and haven’t you all been busy!

We have been amazed by the huge range of fundraising activities and the efforts that everyone has gone to in order to support our work with vulnerable children in Scotland. The donations are rolling in and we’re so grateful to everyone.

Here’s just a small taster of everything you’ve been doing:

  • Giffnock Primary School’s ‘Strictly Come Scottish’ dancing competition was a huge success. The three judges, including our regional fundraiser Kirsten Dugan who took the role of Craig Revel Horwood, gave marks for dancing, costumes and ‘Wow’ factor, and they raised £128.
    Pupils at Giffnock Primary School
  • Carnegie Primary School in Halbeath raised £524 by having a week of activities, including Scottish Country Dancing, Highland Games, bake sales, and recitals of Scottish songs and poetry. They finished the week off by having a tartan dress up day.
  • Alexander Peden Primary School had haggis, neeps and tatties for lunch and raised £50.
  • The Bayview Social Club in Methil smashed their previous total and raised £700 with their 4th Annual Tartan Karaoke night.
  • Santander House in Glasgow held a collection on dress-down-Friday and raised £600.
  • MSIS Group in Invergordon sold tartan pin badges, baking and soup and raised £150.
  • Buoys and Gulls Nursery near Peterhead wore tartan, sold shortbread and took part in some Scottish Dancing. They also made their own tartan using the colours of their logo, and raised £62.
  • Debenhams stores in Glasgow and Edinburgh supported Kilts for Kids by holding collections and selling Tartan Heart Pin Badges, and even raffling a cardboard cut-out of Justin Beiber! So far, money raised has topped £900, and the Debenhams stores in Dunfermline and Kircaldy are still fundraising all the way through the Christmas period!
  • Castle Douglas High School held a non-uniform day and raised £695.
  • NPA Childcare and Playwork Students at Aberdeen College raised £210 selling pin badges and doing a bucket shake around college.
  • The staff at Slaters in Glasgow had a Kilts for Kids day and raised £98, which Slaters matched up to £200.
  • St Mary’s Primary School in Bonnyrigg held a special assembly with all 150 pupils dressed in tartan. The winning outfit was announced at the end and a £218 was raised for Kilts for Kids Day.
  • Cults Primary in Aberdeen raised £435 by wearing tartan on the Friday and holding a ceildh.
  • Staff at DB Apparel in Greenock took part for the fourth year running and raised £129.
  • Haldane Primary School in Alexandria raised £50 by holding a Scottish afternoon. All the classes performed a Scottish song or poem to their parents.
  • Mauchline Primary School raised £33 by making tartan coasters.
  • Highlanders Academy in Greenock sold our Tartan Heart badges and raised £200.
