CHILDREN 1ST Believes…
- Children and young people have the same rights as everyone else in our society and their interests should always come first.
- Society needs to address the symptoms and the causes of unhappiness and difficulties in children and young people’s lives.
- Valuing children and young people and what they bring to our lives is a key part in changing how we treat them in our society.
Being a granny is the best thing. What is it they say? All the fun and none of the responsibility.
But that’s not how it is for me.
I now look after my two grandsons, as I was truly worried about their welfare. You see, my son and his wife are unfortunately alcoholics and they were not coping with the responsibility of having children. I couldn’t stand by and watch my grandsons being brought up in this way so took charge and moved them in with me.
CHILDREN 1ST were there for me when I needed some help and advice on how to make this a permanent solution, so that my grandchildren could stay where it was safe for them to grow up happy and secure. My grandchildren were lucky that I was around to step in, not all children have this option.
Whether you are personally involved in a child’s life, like I was, or you are aware of a child at risk but from a distance, then I urge you that we ALL need to take responsibility for the safety of all children across Scotland.
I’ve had enough of too many children and young people in Scotland living in fear of abuse and violence, who are afraid to go home, whose interests rarely come first. Too many children are losing out on their childhood because they are not getting the best possible start in life.
I strongly support CHILDREN 1ST’s beliefs and feel they are the lifeline for all children across Scotland. Please sign the pledge and join me in supporting CHILDREN 1ST.
YOU can help make the difference.
