Dundee Family Support Service

The Dundee Family Support Service (formerly the Laurelbank Family Resource Centre) provides services to vulnerable children and their families in the Dundee area. In addition to individual counselling and family work, we offer parenting support through group work. Our staff also work with very young parents and mothers who have a history of drug use.

Mark and Steven, aged 2 and 3 years, were living with foster parents. Our staff at the Dundee Family Support Service were involved in helping to decide their long-term future. The parents had both been in care as children. After marrying young their marriage soon ended. Mark and Steven saw their parents every week at the Centre. But the relationship was not good - neither parent seemed to know how to respond to the boys. Sadly, their mum stopped coming to see them and did not want her children back. But their dad worked very hard to be given a chance to care for his sons. Mark and Steven along with their dad continued to visit the Service where we all worked together to set routines for the boys.

Mark, Steven and their dad have now settled into a new home and are doing well.

If you would like to access this service, you can find contact details in our Services Contact List.

Coming to Laurelbank and speaking to John has helped me cope better with home and school. My behaviour in school has got better and I don't get into trouble with the teachers as much.
