Family Group Conferences - Introduction
What is a family group conference?

A family group conference, also known as a family group meeting, is a method of decision making where families and professionals or helping agencies, work together where there are concerns for a child or young person and decisions need to be made to ensure their welfare. The process is led by the family, involving members of the extended family and close friends and is supported by professionals.

The CHILDREN 1ST FGC development unit

The FGC development unit is the central body concerned with all aspects of family group conferencing.
The aim is to promote the strategic use of FGC across a wide range of need and to develop best practice guidance. We provide training, advice and consultancy
about FGC and have recently published National Standards for use by any FGC practitioners in Scotland.
We also co-ordinate the Scottish FGC Network which meets annually.
In addition, the development unit is the Scottish contact for the European FGC Network and co-ordinates Scotland's representation and attendance at European FGC Network meetings and events.
You can contact the FGC development unit by email or by calling 0131 319 8062.
