About us: Our services

Fraserburgh Families Service

The Fraserburgh Families Service helps young children whose families are affected by drug and alcohol use. Our staff build relationships with adult family members and give them practical help in caring for their child in the most safe and nurturing way they can. The service will develop in a flexible way in response to local need and evaluation of effective practice.

BREAKFAST CLUB
Many of the children who come to us have little contact with other children of a similar age. The Service introduced a weekly Breakfast Club to offer children a healthy breakfast and the opportunity to develop the social skills needed to sit with others to eat and enjoy time together. After breakfast together, children enjoy structured and free playtime. In the first few weeks we were struck by how quiet the children were but the introduction of musical instruments and singing soon changed all that!

Parents and children appreciate the time spent with us trying different foods and experiences. Children are developing skills that will stand them in good stead for their progress to playgroups and nurseries.

Parents often feel isolated. To help alleviate this we have set time aside for shopping trips supported by the Early Years Workers who talk about different foods and planning menus within a tight budget. These trips are rounded off with time to talk about day-to-day issues. Some parents have taken the opportunity to come to the Service and cook the food they have purchased using recipes and support from staff. This all leads to increased confidence in parenting skills that are often diluted by the issues surrounding substance misuse.

If you would like to access this service, you can find contact details in our Services Contact List.

The intensive support the Service's workers offer to vulnerable families is much needed and has filled a gap.
