Children and Families Service Glasgow
The Children and Families Service Glasgow offers structured help and support to children and young people affected by all forms of abuse and neglect who are resident within the West of Scotland. Our aim is to help individuals and families recover from the effects of abuse through promoting self-esteem, developing trusting relationships and learning how to keep themselves safe.
The service offers a therapeutic environment where children and young people can explore their experiences. As a child centred service, we respect the rights of children to make choices and work at their pace.

Jane (9) and David (7) were in foster care due to parental neglect, and there were concerns that Jane had also been abused.
Both children displayed sexualised behaviour towards adults and other children. Their foster carers' anxiety had been transferred onto the children, who were wary of any discussion around sexual behaviour as they felt they were being judged as 'bad' children.
We worked with the foster carers on looking at how sexual abuse impacts on children's development and what care needs there are for such children.
Jane and David were worked with individually to allow them to talk safely about sexual abuse, its meaning and impact, without fear they were being labelled.
