Training and Consultancy

The CHILDREN 1ST training and consultancy service provides training in child protection for a number of agencies and offers specific packages of training designed to meet the needs of every organisation.

The service equips individuals and organisations involved with children, young people and families to be competent and confident in protecting children. We do this by providing advice, consultancy and a range of training for individuals and organisations: from sports coaches, leisure attendants and health professionals to social work, education and voluntary organisations.

What can you expect from us?

  • a child-centred approach
  • staff who are knowledgeable about child protection policy, legislation and research
  • a commitment to working collaboratively to support positive outcomes for Scotland's children and young people
  • a commitment to respect and promote local child protection guidelines
  • a commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice
  • a quality assured service
  • value for money.

Our staff and associate trainers are skilled in child protection policy, practice, and research and have experience and understanding of a wide range of specific issues and settings.

Training Courses

All of our training courses are tried and tested and can be delivered at a venue which suits the needs of organisations and individuals. We are also able to design a course specifically to meet your needs - so if you can't find the course you are looking for please contact us. All courses are for a maximum of 25 participants unless otherwise stated.

Every participant will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of their course. The full list of courses can be viewed in our training and consultancy brochure.

For family group conferencing training, contact Anne Hamilton or Julie Gunn on 0131 319 8069/8068 or email fgc@children1st.org.uk.

For helpline call-takers training, please contact Jill Cook on 0131 446 2333. For all other training enquiries, please contact Kathleen McInulty on 0141 418 5674.

An excellent balance between information giving, discussion, group work and reflection.

I am much more confident about my role in protecting children.

Very professional delivery.
