FGC Training and Consultancy
The FGC Development Unit offers a consultancy and advice service for those who are considering implementing the FGC model of decision making.
It also offers accredited training for FGC co-ordinators and for those wanting to increase their knowledge and awareness of FGC.
While standard packages are available, training will be adapted to meet the needs of the relevant participants and organisations. For further information, please email fgc@children1st.org.uk.
Standard training packages
FGC Awareness Raising
Introduction: This course is designed for those new to the FGC model. It is suitable for individuals and agencies, practitioners and managers.
Content: The course examines
- a general introduction to the theory and principles of FGC
- how FGC might be put into practice in a variety of situations.
Notes: This course can be adapted to run over a half day, one or two days and can be delivered to groups of any size.
FGC Co-ordinator Training Module 1
Introduction: This four day course prepares participants starting work as a FGC co-ordinator.
Content: The course examines
- the FGC model
- the practice involved in fulfilling the role of co-ordinator
- developing and evaluating an FGC service.
Notes: Included is a separate opportunity to 'shadow' an experienced FGC co-ordinator. On successful completion of this course, participants will receive CHILDREN 1ST FGC co-ordinator Module 1 accreditation. This course is for six to 12 participants.
FGC Co-ordinator Training Module 2
Introduction: This two day course is for FGC practitioners who have had approximately six months experience following completion of the Module 1 Training.
Content: The course covers
- an agenda determined in advance by negotiation with participants
- participants' practice needs.
Notes: On successful completion of this course, participants will receive CHILDREN 1ST FGC co-ordinator Module 2 accreditation. This course is for six to 12 participants.
Multi-agency FGC Training
Introduction: A regionally-based introductory or intermediate course primarily for agencies that intend to establish FGC services and/or already carry out FGC in practice. This course is suitable for social work, health and education professionals, as well as other interested parties, and lasts from half a day to a whole day, by negotiation.
Content: The introductory course examines
- a basic working knowledge of FGC
- what is expected of participants in the FGC process
- expected gains from participation in the FGC process.
The intermediate programme focuses on specific FGC issues relevant to the current FGC services.
Notes: There are no limits to the number of participants for these two courses.
