ParentLine Scotland 10th Birthday Celebration
01/04/2009
The Scottish Parliament was the venue for a reception to mark the 10th birthday of our free helpline ParentLine Scotland.
The event was a chance to say a big thank you to our volunteer call takers, 11 of whom have been with ParentLine Scotland from the beginning, for their excellent work and commitment.
The helpline also received birthday praise from Parliament in a motion which described it as "a source of easily accessible support for parents".
Jan McClory, Assistant Director at CHILDREN 1ST, said: "The event marked the outstanding contribution that ParentLine Scotland volunteers make to providing accessible support to anyone looking for advice, support or information. Without their dedication, skills and commitment this service would simply not be possible."
Since it was set up, ParentLine Scotland has helped more than 85,000 callers on issues ranging from teenage behaviour to bullying, contact following parental separation and concerns about a child's safety.
Last year, in partnership with CrossReach, ParentLine Scotland established the Bluebell Line (0800 345 7457), Scotland's first helpline for sufferers of postnatal depression and their families. Staff also set up a support group for the parents of children and young people who self-harm which is now being carried on by mental health organisation Penumbra.
