Freddy's story
26/05/2009
Freddy, aged 14, came to bfriends as he was arguing and fighting a lot and this was getting him into trouble. He has been matched with his befriender for over a year. This is what Freddy has to say about his time with bfriends.
"When I first came to bfriends I felt a wee bit shy because it was a new thing, but then it got really good. I felt quite shy when I first met my befriender, until I got to know him a bit better.
The best thing about meeting my befriender is that it's fun and it gives me someone to talk to. I get some peace and quiet from home, because there's lots of other kids around at home, and that can get annoying for me.
Before I came to bfriends my life was quite bad, I was always arguing and fighting. I never really had a guy I could talk to in my life. Now I've got a male befriender, I can talk to him about stuff I don't like talking to my mum about.
Now my life is better because I'm not as stressed. I've had time away from the house, and feel better for it.
I've been places with my befriender that I've not been to before, and done stuff I've not done before. The best thing about coming to bfriends is, it's fun and I get to meet different people when I go to the base, because there's nearly always someone else there."
Often a befriender is the only stability in a child's life, your donation of just £12 can buy resources for an outing with a befriender.
