Coast to coast for CHILDREN 1ST
Thursday 16 July 2009
A recent fundraising effort by an Aberdeenshire businessman will be the envy of many. Garreth Wood drove a saltire covered Lamborghini from Los Angeles to Miami and in the process raised £3000 for CHILDREN 1ST in conjunction with Original 106 FM.
Gumball 3000 Rally is an epic 'classic' coast to coast race from Los Angeles to Miami with drivers covering the 3000 miles in just seven days.
Gareth said: "John (John King, co-driver) and I were proud to support CHILDREN 1ST while taking part in the Gumball 3000 rally. We are aware of the valuable work that CHILDREN 1ST does in the local community."
Services in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire services will directly benefit from the £3000 raised by Garreth. Services such as the Corrieneuchin project which works with children to help them recover from abuse and trauma. The money raised will cover the cost of providing abuse recovery services for almost four months.
In addition, we have the Fraserburgh Families service providing help to protect children affected by parental drug and alcohol abuse.
CHILDREN 1ST also runs Family Group Conferences services throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, which brings families together to find ways of keeping children who cannot be looked after by their parents within their extended family as an alternative of being taken into care.
Thanks to Garreth and John we can ensure more children have a safe and secure childhood.
