Falling for CHILDREN 1ST

Tuesday 25 August 2009

abseilersDaredevil supporters of CHILDREN 1ST took part in our first abseil challenge event on Saturday 1st August.

This involved them abseiling 150 feet from the top of the Titan Crane in Clydebank.

Despite the cloudy skies and windy conditions a hardy team of CHILDREN 1STabseilers turned out to take on the challenge and make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Scotland.

Taking part on the day were teams from MITIE and Barclays Wealth along with a number of brave individuals including some CHILDREN 1STstaff. One member of the Mitie team, Justin Ridley, had raised nearly £1000.

On the day, our brave hearted abseilers were harnessed up and issued helmets by the Glasgow Climbing Centre staff before taking the lift to the top of the crane. It was a long way down as they took turns to lower themselves over the edge before beginning their freefall abseil descent amid cheers from their supporters.

Dave Rigby, from CHILDREN 1ST said: "It was the most exciting and terrifying thing I have ever done. The feeling of achievement on reaching the ground is amazing but what is even better is knowing that I have raised money for a really worthwhile cause."

Well done to all our brave abseilers and fantastic fundraisers.

The next Titan Crane abseil event is on Sunday the 6th of September so if you feel inspired then why not sign up for it?
