Michael Connarty MP talks with CHILDREN 1ST Service Manager Lorraine McKillopMichael Connarty, MP, recently visited his local Family Group Conference Service in Falkirk run by CHILDREN 1ST, the leading child welfare charity which is supported by the People's Postcode Lottery.

The service brings together family members and supportive family friends in a caring environment to plan the best way forward for children whose futures seem uncertain.

The meeting is overseen by an independent 'coordinator' who is present to support the family in coming up with a plan for the child's future.

Michael Connarty, MP, was given a tour of the service and took the opportunity to ask staff questions about their work in the Falkirk area and the challenges that local children can face.

It was also a chance for the MP to talk to Service Manager Lorraine McKillop and Tom Roberts, CHILDREN 1ST's Head of Public Affairs over a cup of tea. Greatly enthused by the obvious positive impact the CHILDREN 1STservice has made upon the lives of families in Falkirk, he commented:

"I was so impressed by the CHILDREN 1ST Family Group Conference Service which supports Falkirk children in Falkirk District. It is a great example of a partner charity working with the People's Postcode Lottery. Apart from local people winning with their postcodes, local children and families are also winners"

Claire Stewart, Charities Manager from the People's Postcode Lottery also attended the visit. A key supporter of CHILDREN 1ST, the People's Postcode Lottery has raised over £683,000 for the charity.

It's a figure Tom Roberts describes as "Astonishing - the ongoing and unrestricted support from the People's Postcode Lottery is invaluable in helping services such as our Family Group Conference Service in Falkirk continue supporting parents and their children."

All three expressed their thanks to Michael Connarty, MP for taking the time to visit the centre, with People's Postcode Lottery representative Claire commenting "It's great to see politicians like Michael Connarty taking an active interest in children's welfare, and in particular the fantastic services CHILDREN 1ST offer. These services not only serve Michael Connarty's own constituency but can also be found across Scotland."
