The Inverness Raft and Duck Race: a Quacking Good Day
Monday 28 September 2009
It may have been rained off the first time, but the sun shone brightly for the Inverness River Raft and Duck Race on the 19th of September.
The River Ness Raft Race is one of Inverness City's most colourful events. Teams of four built their own rafts and raced them down the River Ness. Spectators were treated to a zany array of rafts (and rafters!) making their way down the river. The prize for the most original and humorous entry went to ECG Facilities Services for their Doctor Who themed raft.
The last raft race was followed by the ever popular Duck Race, with prizes donated by Lifescan Scotland.
This year these were ducks with a difference – they were sponsored by the People’s Postcode Lottery. As an added bonus, People’s Postcode Lottery gave all entrants a souvenir duck to take home. The 1500 plucky racing ducks enthralled the crowds as they raced down the River Ness, from Ness Bridge to the finish line at Greig Street Footbridge.
The day proved to be more than worth the wait and a fantastic day of family fun for all who attended. CHILDREN 1ST would like to send a great big thank you too all of the participants, spectators and supporters such as the People’s Postcode Lottery who helped make it such a quacking good day.
