55 mile cycle for CHILDREN 1ST
Wednesday 14 October 2009
Helping CHILDREN 1ST raise vital funds for the provision of their many services throughout Scotland, Stuart Lockhart of Spartans FC set himself the challenge of cycling 55 miles in support of CHILDREN 1ST.
On Sunday 13th September, Stuart set off from Glasgow Green on his 55 mile journey over the hills of central Scotland. The cycle took 3 hours and 55 minutes and finished at Victoria Park in Edinburgh.
Stuart avoided stopping at any of the many feeding stations along the way due to a concern that he may not make it back on the bike! Once at Victoria Park Stuart was met by a crowd cheering him over the finish line and various events that had been organised to enable all the cyclists to recover after their ordeal!
Stuart states “I would recommend participation in this event to anyone as the camaraderie amongst those taking part ensured that I saw it through to the bitter end. Being a volunteer who works with children, it made perfect sense for me to raise money for children’s charities. CHILDREN 1ST have supported me in my role as Child Protection Officer and they are involved in so many worthwile activites in the child protection arena.”
CHILDREN 1ST appreciate all the hard work that went in to completing this mammoth cycle and it is because of people like Stuart who dedicate a lot of their spare time to supporting our charity that we are able to help families under stress, protect children from harm and neglect, help children recover from abuse and promote children’s rights and interests.
