Annual Lecture 2010
Tuesday 28 September 2010
CHILDREN 1ST invites you to attend our annual lecture titled "Early Years Matter - More Than You Think" delivered by Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland.
Dr Burns qualified in 1974 and has since held many positions including Medical Director of the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow and Director of Public Health for Greater Glasgow Health Board. In 1999 he was awarded a Visiting Professorship in Public Health Medicine from the University of Glasgow and Dr Burns took up post as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Scotland in September 2005, where he is the Scottish Government's principal medical adviser.
Dr Burns will draw on his considerable experience and research to suggest that a lack of consistent parenting can lead to the physical effects of chronic stress which increases the risk of serious illness in later life. He will discuss that whilst other more conventional factors behind Scotland's ill health are undoubtedly improving, inconsistent parenting continues to cause huge problems in later life, concluding that "we are looking at the biological consequences of sociological chaos".
The event will be held at 6.30pm in the Barcelo Highland Hotel, Stirling on Tuesday 26th October 2010. Join us for what promises to be a challenging and thought-provoking event.
Tickets are £10 and include canapes and refreshments.
