Work showcased on television

Wednesday 5 December 2007

Peoples Postcode Lottery logoAs part of our partnership with the new People's Postcode Lottery, two short films giving a taste of the work of CHILDREN 1ST were broadcast on Monday 3 December.

The People's Postcode Lottery sponsors the Postcode Challenge quiz, hosted by Carol Smillie, which is shown on STV on Monday nights at 8pm.

As one of three charities benefiting from the Postcode Lottery, two 20-second films filmed at our Family Support service in Edinburgh were screened during the show.

The People's Postcode Lottery - Scotland's first charity lottery - was officially launched at the start of November. The first three charities chosen to benefit from its proceeds will be CHILDREN 1ST, The Scottish Wildlife Trust and Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, who will receive a minimum 20% of all money raised from ticket sales.

The People's Postcode Lottery selected organisations working in the health sector, with children and to protect nature and the environment here in Scotland. As the number of people playing the Postcode Lottery grows, the percentage of funds donated will increase and other charities brought onboard.

The Postcode Lottery concept is already a huge success in The Netherlands and Sweden, where 4.3 million people play each week and over 3 billion euros have been donated to good causes.

The lottery is subscription-based and players purchase a £2 ticket based on their postcode. Each ticket in the winning postcode will receive a share of the weekly Postcode Street Prize of £25,000, and every ticket is also entered into the monthly Postcode "Belter" for the chance to win even more cash and star prizes - including a brand new Mini. The first lottery draw will take place early in the new year on 4 January 2008.
