Conference on the future of foster care

Thursday 11 August 2011

Are you a foster carer or a professional working with foster carers? If so you may be interested in a conference to be held on Tuesday 13 September at the Salutation Hotel, Perth - The Future of Foster Care in Scotland: improving outcomes for looked after children which is being organised by Children in Scotland.

The numbers of children in Scotland, who are 'looked after' is increasing. Currently, more than 6,500 children and young people are being looked after away from home in Scotland, many of whom are cared for by over 3,000 foster families across the country. But a shortage of foster carers, along with social and economic challenges, means it's time to work together to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people in challenging circumstances.

This conference will offer foster carers and professionals an opportunity to debate the future model for fostering which supports all stakeholders and the children they care for, and which will create the best outcome for all.

Speakers and breakout facilitators include Sara Lurie, Director, The Fostering Network Scotland, Jennifer Davidson, Director, New Centre for Excellence on Looked After Children, Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Dundee, Graham McCann, Looked After Children Education Forum, Irene Grant, National Director, Nurture Group Network, Glenda Devlin, Director of Operations, Care Visions and SWIIS Foster Care Scotland.

Children In Scotland are able to offer a limited discounted rate of £90 for any foster carers who wish to attend the event (quoting code FFC2011), and are also able to offer group booking rates for any organisations or providers wishing to offer funded places to foster carers.

Bookings can be made online at www.childreninscotland.org.uk/foster or by calling Hannah on 0131 222 2431.
