Kilts for Kids Day 2010 enjoys great success

Thursday 18 August 2011

Last year saw schools and businesses across Scotland sign up and take part in Kilts for Kids Day. They raised over £65,000 bringing the four year fundraising total to an amazing £240,000.

There were many great examples of how businesses and schools did it too. Debenhams in both Kirkcaldy and Falkirk organised a bucket collection, a school choir came in to sing for the shoppers. They also sold balloons, each containing a prize, and released them. B&Q stores across the country raffled big toy Dulux dogs in stores throughout Glasgow and one brave BHS employee took part in a sponsored leg wax in the shop window.

Schools also came up with some great fundraising events. Whitdale Primary School in West Lothian had a whole day of Scottish-themed activities. Primary six and seven pupils learned Scottish Country Dancing from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. Primary four and five learned street dancing with a Scottish twist from a member of the Scottish Rockettes. Primary three recited Scottish poetry from the Burns Society and primary two pupils were told some famous Scottish fairy tales. They raised money by running competitions such as dress your teddy in tartan, design a clan badge for the school and used our Kilts for Kids Day quizzes to sell to their parents.

Anne Houston, Chief Executive, CHILDREN 1ST said: “It was great to see so many people get involved and making last year such a success. Not only did people put their imaginations and creativity to great use in putting on some fun activities and events, but they raised lots of money for the charity.

These valuable funds have helped CHILDREN 1ST to provide life changing support to Scotland’s vulnerable children and families. I hope all these schools and businesses support us again this year so that Kilts for Kids Day can be even bigger and better.”
