EDLC on good form

Monday 6 February 2012

If you’re scurrying about trying to ensure your paperwork reflects the language of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 then here’s one less thing for you to worry about – the letting form.

East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust (EDLC) recently worked with Safeguarding in Sport to update their letting forms and supporting guidance to incorporate the Protection of Vulnerable Groups legislation (PVG).

If your organisation needs to update their forms then what’s the point in re-inventing the wheel? EDLC’s form asks all the right questions of hirers, ensuring they understand what constitutes an offence and what their responsibilities are under PVG.

Campbell Bell, Safeguarding in Sport Service Manager, says: “We have had enquiries from local authorities and leisure trusts regarding unsuitable individuals looking to hire their facilities. The letting form is one part of the overall package to keep children safe so it is important that it reflects current legislation.

“By using the correct language like ‘regulated work’ and being clear on what is expected of hirers there can be no excuse for clubs and individuals failing to ensure they meet their legal and ethical obligations.”

Here is a PDF version of EDLC’s form. Each local authority, in conjunction with their own legal department, should ensure that letting forms are the best fit for their organisation.
