Some inspiring fundraising by staff in more than 400 SPAR stores supplied by the wholesaler CJ Lang & Son Ltd, ensured that they have exceeded their set target. And thanks to the overwhelming support of staff and customers the company has decided to extend its two year partnership with CHILDREN 1ST for another year.

The network of shops provide a vital service to many local communities, and their fundraising efforts will help us provide a helping hand to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and families in communities across Scotland.

The stores have adopted CHILDREN 1ST and the NSPCC as their charities for the past two years. From running marathons around Loch Ness to fancy dress and tea parties, customers and staff have made the two year initiative a tremendous success. SPAR also donated money from the sale of a range of sandwiches and created CHILDREN 1ST branded 'bags for life' to raise even more funds.

Philippe Rondepierre, SPAR Scotland business development manager, said: "We are delighted that our stores have risen to the challenge of raising £1Million for CHILDREN 1ST and the NSPCC."
