Privacy policy

CHILDREN 1ST (Royal Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is a Registered Charity No: SC 016092. CHILDREN 1ST is registered with the Information Commissioner, in the UK, as a data controller.

CHILDREN 1ST respects your privacy. The following privacy policy outlines how information about you is collected on the CHILDREN 1ST website www.children1st.org.uk.

What information do we compile?

  • Personal Information
  • Survey Information
  • Aggregate or Summary Information

Personal information is anything which enables us to identify you in some way, such as your name and an email address. If you supply such information, we are bound by the Data Protection Act 1998 and the EC Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications to ensure that such information is only used for the purpose for which it was requested and also to ensure that the data is held securely.

We capture personal information about you;

  • when you make a donation online or complete a direct debit form. In order to process credit card transactions we ask for your card details on our donation form, and our direct debit form asks for your bank details. To ensure the maximum level of security is applied to your data all transactions to and from these sections are encrypted using SSL (secure Sockets Layer). These forms are also available offline to print out and send by post. Credit card and bank details will be transferred to our internal databases to allow for the processing of payments.
  • when you e-mail a request for information we will collect your name, e-mail, address and telephone number so that we can reply to you. Summary information is kept for statistical purposes but we will not contact you again unless you specifically request otherwise.
  • when you ask to be added on to our mailing list. This website uses the 'opt in' method of data collection to make sure that we only send you mail that you have requested. Where stated we may use the personal information you provide to contact you in the future about the work of CHILDREN 1ST. We will not pass your information to any organisation or person outside CHILDREN 1ST. If you wish to remove yourself from our mailing list, or to check what details we hold about you, please contact info@children1st.org.uk stating the nature of your contact with CHILDREN 1ST and the type of mail you have been receiving.

Survey Information
When you download our factsheets we will ask a survey question and send a cookie to you so that you won't have to answer again. The survey question is intended to collect data about the use of our factsheets. If you do not wish to answer this question you can request our factsheets by post or e-mail.

Aggregate or summary information is collected automatically by our system e.g. number of visitors to the site. This information is used to monitor use of the web site and will not be used to identify you as an individual.

Use of Cookies
We may collect and record information in order for us to understand more about how our site is used and in turn to make sure that the site reflects your needs. In order to do this we may send cookies to your PC. A cookie will contain information that allows us to recognise that you have used the site before, but will not contain any other personal data. You can disable this function within your browser without affecting your navigation around the site, but you may be unable to download some documents (see above).
