Supporting Families
The majority of children are part of a family, and often the best way to help children in need is to help their families. That's why CHILDREN 1ST provides practical help, support and a listening ear for parents and families going through crisis or breakdown.
Many of the families we work with try to do their best for their children, but struggle to cope with drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, isolation and absence of wider family support.
Much of the work we do with children is far more effective when carried out in partnership with parents. Many of our projects which work with young children experiencing difficulties in their home or school life also work with their parents both individually and in groups.
Every family is different, but we truly believe most families want to do their best for their children, and are committed to providing the tools to allow them to make decisions and implement changes to improve the lives of their children.
