Directions Project, Ayr

When children display challenging behaviour parents can feel frustrated, angry and powerless. For children, their behaviour can affect the rest of their lives.

The Directions Project in Ayr provides support to children aged 5-12 and their families in South Ayrshire. We help children to address their difficulties, including challenging and possible or actual offending behaviour.

The project runs parenting programmes to help parents learn new strategies to deal with their children's behaviour. In conjunction with this we run group work programmes for children. We help them to understand the consequences of their behaviour and to think of logical consequences to their actions.

We also work closely with local schools to ensure that these techniques are implemented while the children are at school. Using this all-round approach, we can help children and young people to reach their full potential and remain within their families and communities.

Referrals should be made directly to the project service manager by telephone. If appropriate, this should then be followed up with a formal referral form
