Family Support Team, Edinburgh
Family life can throw up all sorts of problems. And sometimes families need a helping hand.
Our staff work with families in South East Edinburgh who have children aged 12 and under with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. We work intensively with the children and parents either in their home or at our centre in Gilmerton. And we can also provide extra support to help children cope in school.
Sometimes, the children's behaviour can lead to them becoming isolated. So we also run groups where they can meet children their own age and staff who can help them develop their social skills and confidence.
For parents who have been struggling with family relationships and their children's behaviour it can be a welcome relief to meet other parents in the same situation. Our parenting groups give them the chance to support each other and to develop their parenting skills.
Staff also help families make the most of the support and resources on offer in their local community.
Referrals for children under five can be made directly to the Family Support Team. Referrals for children aged 5-12 should be made following a school Pupil Support Group meeting. Parents and other agencies can request a PSG meeting by contacting their school's headteacher.
