Midlothian Young Carers Service

In most families mum or dad does the cooking, laundry and all the day-to-day jobs about which most children never give a moment's thought.
There are many reasons why young people can find themselves thrust into a caring role. Their parents may be ill, have a disability or mental health problem or be addicted to drugs or alcohol. Older children can also become responsible for younger children with a disability.
The Midlothian Young Carers service provides support and advice tailored to meet the individual needs of young people across Midlothian who find themselves caring for a dependent relative at home. Our staff provide both individual and group activities aimed at helping the young people enjoy their lives to the full.
Parents, carers or any agency can contact the service to discuss a possible referral; young people can also refer themselves.
