ParentLine Scotland

Raising a child can be hard work.
And talking to friends or family who are part of everyday life doesn't always help. Sometimes it's good to talk about worries with someone who can see things in a different way.

I felt very alond and frustrated. Talking things through helped me to see things differently and gave me the confidence to talk again with the school. A parent

At ParentLine Scotland (0808 800 2222) we are good listeners.
We help parents deal with problems no matter how big or small. And the helpline is free and confidential for anyone caring for a child in Scotland.

Our calltakers are not here to tell parents what to do or how to bring up their children. They listen and help parents get to the bottom of the problem by talking through their feelings. Parents get information and advice in a way that helps them make the right decisions on their own.

Many parents phone us when they are at the end of their tether and may feel like they can't cope. Sometimes parents are embarrassed about asking for help. But they soon find out that there is nothing to worry about. Just talking things through can really help.

Since our launch in 1999 we have had over 85,000 calls to the helpline. Most of them are about worries like the relationship between parents and teenagers, separation and divorce, bullying, family relationships and child abuse.

If you have a problem don't wait until you feel things get out of control. Talk to us now and let us help.

We also provide Scotland's first postnatal depression telephone helpline, Bluebell at ParentLine Scotland. The helpline is a joint initiative between CHILDREN 1ST and CrossReach, the social care arm of the Church of Scotland.

All calls are answered by specially trained volunteers. The helpline means that for the first time anyone affected by postnatal depression can get support.
