Moray Children and Young People’s Rights Service

You were the only person rooting for my family. A mum.In a room full of adults it can be daunting for a child to open up and talk about how they feel.

But we believe that children and young people have a right to have a say in the decisions affecting their lives. That's why we help young people in Moray who are living away from home, have additional support needs or who are on the child protection register to give their views on decisions being made about them by professionals.

When discussing a child or young person's future, we believe that their views must be considered, and that being involved in decision making allows them to better understand and accept the decisions made.

These young people have had many difficult experiences in their lives, including having to adjust to foster or residential care. Our worker supports them, finds out how they are coping and helps them to highlight those things they are happy with or would like to change.

And because family circumstances can affect how children and young people perform at school, we also work with education services to support children and young people during meetings with their teachers.
