Volunteer for ChildLine in Scotland

It’s a really good feeling, knowing that you’ve been able to help children and young people who really needed someone to speak to. That’s what ChildLine is all about - being there for young people who have nowhere else to turn.Volunteers are at the heart of everything ChildLine does. Without volunteers, the service simply wouldn't exist.

ChildLine needs volunteers across Scotland to:

  • provide telephone counselling for children and young people on a range of issues from one of our bases in Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh
  • answer the switchboard from one of our bases and be the first contact a child or young person has with ChildLine before they are transferred to a counsellor
  • take on a variety of administration duties at one of our bases
  • raise awareness of ChildLine in Scotland by giving talks to groups of children, young people or adults in your local area
  • provide training workshops in you local area on issues such as bullying or setting up support networks to groups of young people or professionals
  • raise funds to keep the service going.

Becoming a ChildLine volunteer is a very rewarding experience. Anyone over the age of 16 can apply to become a ChildLine volunteer. Personal qualities are more important than experience or qualifications and you'll be given training and support, appropriate to the role you take on.

For more information about becoming a volunteer, please email volunteering@childline.org.uk including your name and address. Alternatively, you can telephone or write to your nearest base.
