Volunteer vacancies
Befriender
Volunteers are needed to spend positive time with a young person on a one-to-one basis, having fun, listening, helping to build their self-confidence and opening up new opportunities. We are looking to recruit both male and female volunteers (aged over 16 years old) for our exciting new service currently in development in East Lothian.
bfriends training course is recognised by Community Education Validation and Endorsement (CeVe), and aims to prepare volunteers fully for the befriending role. Because the training is so comprehensive, a genuine caring nature is more important to us than experience or qualifications. Training takes place one evening a week for eight weeks.
After training, volunteers will be allocated to the East Lothian service, and have the support of a full-time Project Worker. The base is currently under development and will be packed with games, resources, and ideas for things to do. Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed and training opportunities are provided free of charge.
bfriends needs people from a variety of backgrounds who:
- are patient, reliable and open-minded
- understand some of the problems young people experience
- can see things from the young person's point of view
- are safe and reliable carers
- can communicate well
- an commit about 3 to 4 hours a week for at least a year
- support bfriends aims and objectives.
