Family Wellbeing and Befriending Volunteer
Carrick Family Wellbeing Service
Do you have the personal qualities and time to help make a real and lasting difference to the lives of children and families in Girvan, Maybole and the surrounding villages?
Help support families, become more resilient by getting alongside them and building relationships with the family group or an individual.
What will I be doing?
Usually our volunteering is face to face but currently this is difficult to achieve in most circumstances, so contact may be online initially.
Volunteers build relationships with families in different ways including;
Family Wellbeing – helping to establish and support family play and activities or offering support and encouragement to help a parent or carer maintain their relationship with their child/ren.
Befriending – developing a 1 to 1 supportive, reliable, social relationship with a child, young person or adult by arranging weekly opportunities to experience new activities and develop interests. Befriending relationships can help build self-esteem and confidence and supports personal and social development.
Group Work and drop in sessions – working with groups of young people, parents and children; supporting the work of Children 1st staff within these sessions.
What do I need to know?
We offer volunteers excellent support and challenging and fulfilling volunteering opportunities.
Potential volunteers complete a 7-week training course of one session each week which has been externally credit rated by Edinburgh Napier University
Volunteers are asked to commit to us on a weekly basis for at least a year
No formal qualifications are necessary and we are happy to reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses.
The ongoing and changing restrictions to control the coronavirus pandemic bring an unavoidable amount of uncertainty to our recruitment, training and subsequent volunteering in the coming months. We anticipate that training will be delivered online, although we will revert to face to face if guidelines allow and we feel it’s safe to do so. We will of course keep potential volunteers up to date with any changes or adaptations we are required to make as we go along and we are looking for people who are comfortable with this flexibility. The health and safety of our volunteers is extremely important to us, so please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
