Helpline Volunteer - Parentline Scotland
Are you caring, compassionate, non judgmental, empathic and passionate about helping others?
Can you commit to a 6 week training course (one full day session per week) followed by volunteering with us on a weekly basis for at least a year?
If so, we’d love to hear from you.
Volunteering for ParentLine Scotland is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families across Scotland. Our volunteers learn new skills and gain valuable experience.
A caring, compassionate and non-judgmental response can make a real difference to someone who wants to talk. No previous experience or formal qualifications are necessary. But good language skills are essential to enable you to listen to and support parents and carers who contact the helpline. Trained staff are always on hand to provide support and guidance.
We provide a comprehensive 51 hours introductory training as well as ongoing support and opportunities to develop in the role. Training courses run throughout the year.
The next training dates will be running after the summer, dates and times will be confirmed by the end of June 2017.
The training will take place at our office at 83, Whitehouse Loan, Edinburgh. EH9 1AT.
Training sessions will run from 09.30am until 4.00pm.
Once successfully through training, we ask volunteers to commit to a weekly shift of about four hours for a minimum of a year.
What will I be doing?
ParentLine Scotland is the Children 1st national helpline, email and web chat service for anyone caring for or concerned about a child. Our call-takers are trained to assist with very serious concerns about children. But mostly they help ordinary parents with everyday problems.
Helpline volunteers listen, offer support, information, and advice.
The helpline is open Mon-Fri 9am-9pm throughout the year and there are a range of shift options to choose from.
“It's a great feeling knowing that you've helped someone when they really need it" (Helpline volunteer)
