Bus Santa spreading the smile in Edinburgh
The babies on the bus won’t be going ‘wah wah wah’ in Edinburgh this month because Lothian Bus Driver Tony Beecher, (35) will be dressed as Santa and bringing Christmas cheer all over the city.
Tony will don his suit to raise smiles and money throughout the capital with donations from generous passengers being split between national children’s charity Children 1st and Edinburgh charity The Yard.
Dressing as Santa during December is something Tony has done since starting to drive buses in 2008 but it wasn’t until 2014 that he decided to do it for good causes.
Last year he raised over £1,000 and hopes to raise even more this time around. Big-hearted Tony said: “People ask why I do it and the answer is always the same ‘because I can’. Anyone can. I will be in full Santa mode, bell ringing, carol singing and being as merry as can be. If you see me don't be afraid to say ‘Hi’ or ‘Ho, Ho, Ho’.”
If you’d like to turn the tables on Santa and put something in his stocking for Children 1st visit his Virgin Money giving page. The charity is also running a social media campaign #spreadthesmile and is asking anyone taking a photo of Santa to share it using the hashtag.
