Banchory Bangle raffle supports Scotland's children for 43rd year

For the first time in 43 years Deeside’s annual Banchory Bangle fundraiser, for Children 1st, will go online to ensure the charity can continue to keep children safe and families strong through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Banchory Bangle, which is designed by prominent Perthshire artist and engraver, Dr Malcolm Appleby, MBE and raffled annually by the Children 1st Deeside Committee has raised over £160,000 funds for the children’s charity, since it began in 1977.

In previous years raffle tickets for the Bangle have been sold through local Deeside shops, but with coronavirus measures leading to closures of many stores for the time being, the Children 1st Deeside Committee have decided to sell tickets online and by email.

Dr Malcolm Appleby and the Deeside Children 1st Committee hope that by taking raffle sales online they can raise even more funds to keep children safe. It costs £1 to enter and tickets can be bought through Givergy. Alternatively you can purchase tickets by emailing Mhairi Morriss at

Dr Malcolm Appleby said: “Coronavirus is causing great stress for families, and those who were already struggling are suffering most, so this year it is more important than ever to do all we can to support Children 1st’s essential work to keep children safe. I’m passionate about ensuring that children get the right support and am delighted to be designing the Banchory Bangle for the 43rd year in a row.

“Every bangle is inspired by the natural world around us. This year’s design is based on the antlers of the majestic red deer and the mystical rowan tree, which is associated with our homes. By entering the raffle you can get a chance to wrap nature around your wrist and more importantly to help children and families to cope through coronavirus.”

The 2021 Banchory Bangle was inspired by our ginkgo trees and their falling leaves, their wonderful colours and such varying shapes as they fall to the ground. Our natural world is so important for children’s well-being and health of future generations.
