April news for corporate partners
Welcome to our April newsletter. We hope you had an enjoyable Easter break, and that you were able to see friends and loved ones in some way.
Our North Ayrshire Team created this wonderful Easter window display in the Children 1st Family Wellbeing Hub in Irvine, complete with an interactive quiz for families passing by. Our Dundee team distributed Easter Egg Hunt packs to families across the city, inspiring lots of outdoor fun.
On the 25th of March we were delighted to welcome many of you to a virtual roundtable event hosted by our Chief Executive, Mary Glasgow. Mary led a panel including Claire Burton, Head of Responsible Business for Deloitte UK, Lisa Belletty, Health and Wellbeing Programmes Advisor for the People’s Postcode Lottery, and the acclaimed trauma psychologist Dr Suzanne Zeedyk. They discussed how different sectors can work together to ensure an inclusive, sustainable recovery from the pandemic for Scotland’s children. If you missed the event you can watch a recording on our YouTube channel.
Today’s blog post gives an update on our national Child’s House for Healing project, showcases a particularly successful fundraising challenge from our partners Dalmore Capital, and invites you to take up a free place in this year’s virtual Edinburgh Marathon Festival.
Britain’s first Child’s House for Healing to open in East Renfrewshire
We are excited to share news of a UK-wide partnership led by Children 1st, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, Victim Support Scotland and Children England. Together we are developing Britain’s first ever Child’s House for Healing. This is a place that will transform the experiences of children who are victims and witnesses of crime.
It will be a child-friendly, safe and welcoming place for children to go to, as an alternative to courts, social work offices and police stations. It will bring health, justice, social work and recovery services all under one roof. The House for Healing is possible thanks to £1.5m funding from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The first house is due to open in East Renfrewshire early next year, supporting up to two hundred children from the West of Scotland. Read more about it on our news pages.
Dalmore Capital races ahead with fundraising for Children 1st
Independent fund management company Dalmore Capital has been supporting Children 1st since July 2020. Their latest fundraising initiative was so impressive that we want to share it with you! Having previously run several internal staff challenges, this time Dalmore invited external sponsors and clients to join them in a Charity Relay Race.
Ten teams from various companies competed to see who could travel the furthest distance – broken up into 5K ‘legs’ – across two weeks. Using the app Strava and the website runguidesraces.com, the teams kept track of their progress. After some heated competition, the winning team ‘Core E’s Fast’ managed to run an impressive 1377.43km over a fortnight. Special mention must also go to those teams with fabulous names, including ‘Paddy and the Pacemakers’, and Dalmore’s own ‘Cirque du Sore Legs’. Most impressive of all, from an initial target of £3000, the runners managed to raise over £29,000! This will support Dalmore’s three partner charities: Children 1st, Cris Cancer Foundation and the Down’s Syndrome Association. Thank you so much to everyone who took part - your efforts will make a huge difference to children and families across Scotland.
