Marathon support for children in Scotland at EMF 2019

Almost 80 runners took part in the 2019 Edinburgh Marathon Festival to support Children 1st, raising over £11,000 to protect children from harm in the process.

From across the Edinburgh office of Deloitte, 70 people took on distances ranging from 10km to the full marathon – some of them doing more than one, getting to experience the lovely sunshine of Saturday, and the less favourable conditions on Sunday for the half and full marathons and Hairy Haggis relay.

Jim Boyle, Partner at Deloitte, was responsible for gathering this amazing turnout – and took on an additional challenge himself, donning the Hamish the highland cow mascot outfit for Saturday’s 10km, before tackling the half marathon the next day.

Jim told us, “We’re delighted to have taken part again in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival weekend in support of the fantastic work that Children 1st does across Scotland. It’s a wonderful opportunity to combine our community and wellness initiatives with some excellent team-building.

"In this, the third year of our EMF participation, we decided to up the stakes a little, with some of the team running more than one event and taking Hamish on his first ever 10k. I’m so proud of the whole team.”

The Deloitte runners were joined by our other amazing fundraisers, including Steven and Jennifer Smillie and Tracey Ryan who tackled the 10km. Dean Cullen, our very own Policy Manager Mark Ballard and his son Adam all took on the 5km. And an impressive four teams from property managers Faithful + Gould took on the Hairy Haggis relay on the Sunday.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined Team Children 1st. Every penny you’ve raised will help to keep children safe in Scotland!
